DTN COMMENTS:  Cash cattle country remains very quiet this afternoon, 
and it looks as if business is essentially done for the week. This week, 
Northern dressed deals have ranged from $295 to $311, the weekly 
accumulated weighted average so far is 302.82 in Nebraska (last week's 
weighted average was $296.69), early week sales were at the lower end of 
this range and Regionals paid for the higher end yesterday. Southern 
live transactions have been at mostly $191 to $192, steady to $2 higher 
than the previous week's weighted averages.

Today's slaughter totaled 115,000 head, 2,000 below last week, and 6,000 
less than a year ago. Saturday's kill is estimated at 5,000 head, 
bringing the weekly total to 609,000 head, 5,000 under the prior week, 
and 38,000 under 2023. Live cattle futures closed mixed, up 152 to off 
25, nearbys fared better than deferreds. Feeders ended the day 
moderately lower, off 50 to 90. Beef cutouts are expected to close 
higher with moderate to good box movement.
